Some people go through a lot of frustration with Jack Russell training. Jack Russell dogs are known as intelligent working dogs but why do some people go through all this trouble. Maybe some are thinking that they got the wrong breed. Perhaps you haven’t thought that the problem is not with your dog but with you. Some dog owners do not realize that why they are having trouble with their Jack Russell training is because they do not have enough information as to how this training should be done.

Below are training tips to guide Jack Russell owners or those who are still thinking of getting a Jack Russell. Your Jack Russell’s behavior is in your hands so learn and watch your dog transform into a nicely trained dog.

Early training Train your puppy as soon as he comes home for the first time. Breeders usually allow puppies to be taken home at eight weeks of age. You can start with the basic pet obedience training.

Other more advanced formal training will follow because of their intelligence and the way they respond to challenges the training brings.

Positive Reinforcement The use of positive reinforcement is a widely used method to train dogs. Praising a dog after he has performed a command will make him understand that he is rewarded because he has done something good.

Giving of food treats or toys usually motivates the dog to perform the command given to him. But you should know the difference between a reward and a bribe. Bribery, when it comes to dog training means that you are bribing the dog to perform a command. When this is often dog, he will later refuse to follow commands when he can not see the reward. In order not to bribe your dog, you should not let him see the treat before giving a command. Show and give the reward only when he has already complied with the command.

Avoid punishment As much as possible, do not punish your dog if he has done something that you do not like. Just like for example when you discover pile of feces beside your new living room couch. Rubbing his nose in his mess will just confuse him. He might actually think that he is being punished because he did his business. To deal with this problem, simply ignore him every time he accidentally dropped his bomb in a wrong place. Your behavior will make him understand that what he did won’t get your attention and he will eventually stop doing it.

Next Level Once you have accomplished the basic training, don’t just stop there. As what has been said, Jack Russell Terriers are highly intelligent and energetic dogs. It can even respond to agility training thus consistent and progressing training is encouraged.

You should have to treat your dog the way he should be treated. Do not think that he thinks and should act the same way as you do because your dog is not human. Dogs, though how intelligent, don’t see things the way humans do. Your patience is important. You should always remember that…

Dove kindly gave me access to her guide so that I could review it. I have no doubt that whoever buys this video guide will be very satisfied. In case you don’t like wading through lots of text and like to get straight to the point, this guide will be ideal for you. The lessons are very practical and show exactly how to train your dog in the particular lesson’s skill.
You are in nice hands with Dove. In the work of the last two years, he’s gained a reputation for herself training animals for films, tv and commercials. He has not trained lots of breeds of canines but also other animals like giant reptiles, birds, deer and rodents.
Dove Cresswell dog training
When you are using her lessons, he recommends you keep sessions short: fifteen to twenty-five minutes maximum. This keeps the dog’s interest and energy levels high. Also, he recommends that you make the lesson fun!
You don’t need any experience at all to follow her lessons. Everything is shown and explained from scratch. He’s studied dog training under several top trainers and has incorporated the best of the best techniques in to this work.
The advantage in an online video as against a book is that you can listen to exactly how Dove speaks to her dog. The tone of voice is very important and you are in no doubt after listening to and watching the lessons.
Where it is necessary, the lessons give you a couple of different ways to train a specific skill. For example, in the first lesson, you can click on whether your dog is a toy breed or any other breed as a quantity of the recommendations are different.
Click here to go to the Dove Cresswell’s website.
What is Covered?
Here’s a rundown of exactly what you’ll find on the world wide website one time you sign up. First, there is a set of two video lessons:
Lesson 1: Puppy Housebreaking/Potty Training
Lesson 2: Crate Training
Lesson 3: Dog Obedience Training (introduction to obedience training, use of collar and leash, use of treats and praise, teaching the commands “Sit”, “Down” and “Stay”)
Lesson 4: Running Politely On Leash: The Casual Heel
Lesson 5: The Recall
Lesson 6: Nice Puppy And Dog Manners (dealing with issues like your dog leaping up on people, stealing food off counters or tables, barking or whining inappropriately, biting hands, pulling to greet other people or canines or stealing things you have set down
Lesson 7: Special Dog Tricks (Shake-A-Paw, Wave, Rollover and Speak)
You’ll also discover a set of two bonus audio lessons:
Lesson 1: Teach Your Dog To Fetch
Lesson 2: Teach Your Dog To Play Soccer
Lesson 3: Teach Your Dog To Play Hide ‘N Seek
Lesson 4: Information On Dog Sports: Agility, Fly Ball and Rally Obedience
Lesson 5: Choosing The Right Toys For Your Dog
Lesson 6: Earning Your Dog’s Respect
Lesson 7: Choosing The Right Dog Food And Treats.
You are also given the chance to get in contact with Dove directly by electronic mail to ask for any clarification or have any questions you have answered.
What I Like About It
I like that this work is very practical and gets straight to the point showing you exactly what to do. When you first bring a puppy home, you are probably most interested in housebreaking your puppy. Watching the first two lessons on housebreaking and crate training will give you exactly the information you need to proceed with confidence.
In case you need an idea of what the the work is like you’ll discover a free video on the world wide website.
Dove Cresswell Review Verdict
I think the Dove Cresswell’s Puppy Training And Dog Training Online is a great resource for a dog owner.

There are fewer careers that I can name that free you from the office cubicle while providing virtually unlimited potential for personal fulfillment and professional achievement than Dog Training and Pet Care.  Dog Training and Pet Care is a field that will constantly challenge you intellectually and can provide you the opportunity to create a truly balanced joyous life.

Once you’ve determined that you want to be a professional dog trainer you need to do some research to find out the pros and cons of the various training philosophies and methodologies currently used.  Dog Training methods and philosophies vary from trainer to trainer and school to school.  Training philosophies go from the outdated and disproved “Alpha Roll” type coercive methods to the scientific based methods derived from modern studies of Learning Theory and Behavior.   You can research various training philosophies and the current methods by visiting the following websites:

National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors was founded in 1965 to promote modern, humane training methods and at the same time elevate the standards of the profession. NADOI is not only the oldest group of its kind in the world, it is the only professional organization to require that all applicants demonstrate proficiency in their craft, as tested and measured by their peers, before membership is granted. NADOI members are found all across the USA and in many foreign countries.

The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is an international testing and certification program for professional pet dog trainers. The CCPDT’s certification program is based on humane training practices and the latest scientific knowledge related to dog training. Competence and continued growth in training practices is promoted through the recertification of qualified professionals.

The  Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) is a professional organization of individual dog trainers who are committed to becoming better trainers through education. The APDT offers individual pet dog trainers a respected and concerted voice in the dog world by promoting professional trainers to the veterinary profession and to increase public awareness of dog friendly training techniques.

http://www.888dogsmith.com/ The DogSmith exists to enhance the lives of pets and their owners by improving their relationship and the quality of the life they share, through providing professional support and training to pet dog owners, supporting and assisting humane societies, animal shelters and rescue organizations to minimize the number of unwanted animals and offering affordable and professional care to family pets so that pet ownership is never a burden.

There is no degree required to become a dog trainer, but you should attain both “book knowledge” and hands-on experience before offering your services to the public. Read books, attend seminars, watch DVDs. Get as much practical experience as possible by mentoring under another trainer and volunteering to work at your local shelter or with rescue groups. Shelter/rescue work is a great way to get practical experience with dogs of various breeds and temperament.

Don’t forget though that most of a professional dog trainer’s work involves training other people how to train and communicate with their dog.  Consider whether you enjoy working with people as well as dogs. Many people get into the profession of dog training without realizing that what dog trainers do is really to train people to train dogs. You must have patience and empathy, and be as good coaching your human clients (lots of positive reinforcement!) as you are with your dogs.

Finally, is your goal to work for another training school in an established business or is your dream to start your own training and pet care business?  One of the great possibilities of starting your own dog training business is that you can work out of your own home so start up costs are minimal. If you plan to start your own business you can be a sole entity or part of a franchise system.

You will probably start out by training part-time while working another job. Whether you can make a living as a full-time trainer depends on how many classes/sessions you are able to schedule in a week, how much demand there is for trainers in your geographic area, and whether you offer other additional services such as boarding, board-and-train or other pet care services.

And there is plenty of room to specialize if your interests are agility competition, obedience, rally, fly ball, assistance dogs or simply pet dogs.  And don’t forget the growing interest in training cats, birds, horses, donkeys or any of the animals found more and more frequently on “hobby” farms around the country. Contact Niki Tudge at www.DogSmithFranchise.com for more assistance in determinng the best avenue for you.

The challenges are endless as is the learning.  But if you have the burning desire to work with animals and if you love meeting new people, analyzing problems and developing programs that may keep a dog from being given up to a shelter then you have what it takes to become a successful professional dog trainer.

Food has always been an obsession among humans for centuries. Well, dogs are no exceptions. Some of the best trainers always carry attractive treats to bring the dog into a positive state for training. Choosing the right dog training treat goes a long way in making your dog respond better to training sessions.

Size and Texture

Treats used for dog training should not be large or hard to chew. We want the dog to focus more on training and not on trying to finish eating the treat. So avoid chewy treats at it takes much longer to finish. Treats just about the size of a pea works well for training sessions. Softer treats like hot dogs, cooked meat or cheese would work well and are also cheaper. You could also buy exclusive dog training treats, which are available in the market for the purpose of training. Smaller treats also come in handy during agility training.

Smell and Color

Dogs have a heightened sense of smell. So choosing a treat that has a stronger aroma would entice your dog to respond better during training sessions. It is important to pay attention to the color of the treat as well. Your dog should be able to identify the treat when the treat is tossed in the air or when it falls on the floor. Choosing a light colored treat is better as most training floors are dark in color.

Variety

All of us love variety in our food, so do dogs. Though having a variety of treats for your dog would be great, it is recommended to use a single type of treat like a hot dog or cooked meat exclusive for training sessions. This way you dog looks forward to the dog training treat as it is not available to them at other times and more importantly your dog learns to associate the treat with performance.

Healthy

It is better to choose a treat that contains good protein and vitamin content it. This would serve both purposes of training your dog and giving him his vitamin supplements. Avoid using too many real liver treats, as it would lead to loose stools. There are many high fat treats in the market, so watch out for while you are purchasing them. It is best to feed less to your dog before training sessions as they work better.

Why Do Dogs Behave The Way They Do? – Dog Behaviour Problems

Why do dogs behave the way they do? It is simply, because they are dogs. We often make the mistake of treating our dogs like they are humans and babies and as a result we expect them to act that way too. When they behave like dogs we wonder why. Your dog is not going to be happy or fulfilled if you insist on molly coddling him or her and talking to him or her like a child.

Dog barking troubles cause severe commotion for dog owners, and for their neighbors.  A dog that barks nonstop will be an absolute nuisance to anyone living around it.  If you are not careful, as a dog owner you could be subject to noise ordinance violations which cost you money and you might even lose your dog.  The good news is that you can easily eliminate your dog noise problems, and it is not as hard as you might have thought otherwise if you have the right information.

As a dog owner, you know your dog is going to bark, that is just what they do, and it is instinctive to them.  However, some barking is just expected and reasonable.  For example, if someone walks up to your house and knocks on your door, you want your dog to bark.  That is one of the benefits of owning a dog, as it can be an excellent deterrent to would be thieves.  Also, your dog may bark and howl when it hears a siren, and this is just normal.  These types of noise form your dog is flat out defensible, and nobody will fault you for it.

Now, it could be considered unreasonable if your dog barks for ten minutes or longer without stopping.  Let’s face, this type of barking is just plain annoying, and can get you in trouble with your neighbors.  If you can’t control this barking you may face the wrath of the entire neighborhood, and you may receive a visit from the local authorities.

If you are at home, and present while your dog barks, there are a few things you can do about it.  And as a responsible pet own you should take action. First off, try to listen and see if Fido is barking for good reason.  If he is, and his barking is defensible with your neighbors and the local municipal laws. then just relax and try not to get too concerned about it.  If the barking is indeed continuous, and problematic, you can put the dog in the garage, or inside your house.  This usually does the trick and calms your pet down.  You can also introduce your dog to consequence and reward behavior modification.  All you need to do is give the dog some kind of queuing sound, and when he responds and stops barking you can reward him with something like a treat.

If you are away from home there are a few things you will want to try out.  You may want to employ the use of a digital recorder and place it near where the dog may bark, and turn it on when you leave the house for the day.  When you get home you can replay the recording and see if you really have a problem at all.  You may find out that the dog is not nuisance barking at all, and your neighbor is just being overly sensitive to your dog’s barking, and trying to cause you problems.  You can save the recordings for later if you should need them as evidence to support your case.  Another thing you can do is make grab the dog’s leash and step outside to the front yard and make the do think you have left the house.  What you are going to do is use association training with your dog to train him not to bark.  Every time your dog barks you walk to the back and put the leash, give him a firm jerk, and tell him NO.  You will find that repeating this process will cause the dog to bark less frequently, and the time between barks will be longer and longer until eventually your problem may be eliminated.

If you find that you just can break your dog from nuisance barking you can employ the use of a bark collar.  Not just any collar will do, and certainly I would never consider abusing my dog by using a shock collar.  I just couldn’t bear the thought or inhumanely treating my dog in this way.  The safest, most humane, and most effective type of bark collar is a spray collar.  These devices are sound activated to shoot a mist of Citronella spray up at the dog’s face every time it barks.  The dog learns by sense association not by smelling the annoying Citronella spray, by feeling an irritating mist up his nostrils, by hearing the a startling hissing sound of the mist being activated, and by seeing the foggy spray up in his eyes.  Academic studies have demonstrated that the use of a spray dog collar is the most effective way to teach your dog to stop barking, and eliminated your problem for good.

If your dog is a persistent nuisance barker, you need to look into the safe and humane way to control this by using a dog spray collar.
