Are there therapy training courses for dogs in Virginia?

Yes, I am looking to train my dog to be a therapy dog but I can’t seem to find any place in VA that helps them train for the AKC/ Canine Good Citizen test. Any advice?

What kind of therapy are you looking for? Training for you or training for the dog? There is a massage therapy school located in Va. They started with offering equine massage therapy certifications but have added canine certification too.

edit: CGC & TDI exams are given in several places. Training involves basic obedience and manners really. I’m a trainer. The last class of my adv basic classes I have a CGC/TDI examiner come in and do testing for students who wish to be certified. Visit the TDI website for listings and dates of open certification exams that are scheduled. Good luck!

Do you mean to train the dog to be a therapy dog? There aren’t usually therapy specific classes. Training would be basic obedience classes and lots of socialization.

Look for a training club in your area – http://www.akc.org/clubs/search/index.cfm?action=obed&display=on
