Why is dog grooming course’s in N.Ireland so expensive?, all I’ve seen are well over £1000 and I really want to train to become a dog groomer but could not afford to pay that much. Can anybody help me find a way to get trained up in dog grooming for a lot less.??? PLEASE

That’s about average for here in the US as well, if not more. Look into grooming salons, and see if you can apprentice with them. Some places are willing to do this. The downside to this is that it can take a lot longer. Usually you start out as a bather, and when they have the time, they teach more and more.

Hi I am in N.ireland too and have looked around for suitable grooming courses, i dont think you are going to get one under £1000 unless you do a home study course but I dont know how affective they would be as you dont get to practice on real dogs!

I wanted to learn so that I could groom my own Schnauzer and bought a DVD which showed how to groom several breeds but it took a few attempts before I was able to do perfect the schnauzer style.

good luck – hope you find something – if you do let me know!

I’m in Canada, so I can’t help you with finding a place where you live, but my training cost me $3500 Canadian.
Over here, a lot of people choose to apprentice, you could call some grooming shops and ask the manager.
I don’t suggest online, video or correspondence courses. It’s a hands on job, so you really need hands on training.
