Has anyone tried to housebreak your dog by teaching them to ring a bell to let you know they need to go out?

My dog knows to go to the door, but she can’t figure out that she needs to ring the bell. She is a 4 month old Goldendoodle. Thanks for any help.

Hang the bell from the doorknob to about nose height. Before taking her out, ring the bell each time. She’ll begin to associate ringing the bell with going outside.
good luck.
We trained our shepherd to do this. There’s a wind chime she rings. It took her a couple of days to figure it out- but she asks to go out whether she needs to potty or not. And, if it’s raining, she’ll just watch the rain and wait for it to stop before she rings. Funny girl. It’s a good tool- but watch out that they don’t train you to put them out every 15 minutes…
my grandma thought her dog to ring a bell when it wants to go outside. what she did was there was only one door they could go outside. so she put a bell down at the bottom and the dog didn’t know what to do so she rung the bell a few times then walked away and she keep doing that and the dog did it one time and remembered ever cents.
My sister did that with her dog. She hung a strap of Christmas bells with a ring on her door knob. When the dog went by the door she would jingle the bells then go out. He quickly picked up on it and now he rings them to go out. Hope this helps.
We took our pups to a “puppy school” that recommended hanging a bell on the door. Like you dog, ours didn’t learn to ring the bell and we gave up on that. Eventually we and the pups learned a sort of schedule and they are housetrained (though I don’t know if the dogs are more trained or we are).
Yes many time i had tryiyed my dog out and made it roll over classic and fake dead and also howel like a wolf and yeas i tried to have my dog rang a bell and i will put his paws to the bell and then he will rang it i\and what is really strange is that he keeps doing it when i let him play in the yard and it drives me crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy
I have a family that purchased a labradoodle puppy from me recently and they put a bell on the door for him to let them know when he needed to go out and he was ringing it on the second day at 9 weeks old. She didn’t immediately go to the door when she saw Duncan go, but waited and he got impatient and started ringing the bell. This is how he learned. It was also like he knew why she put the bell there in the first place. Now he ringing it everytime he needs to go outside.
I like the bell idea, but we have a cat and we dont want the cat to play with the bell because the dog wont make the connection. any other ideas?
