De-Bark the dog. Simple, non-complicated surgery that will lower the volume of his bark. No, it’s not cruel.
If you don’t want to de-bark him, PHYSICALLY CORRECT the dog there & then but tell me, will you be able to be in the house 24/7 supervising, correcting & being consistent with it every single minute of every single day? I don’t think so unless you stay at home 24/7.
first you will have to teach the dog to bark on command, than you will be able to calm the barking.
I use an empty water gallon and fill it with dimes or pennies and shake it a couple of times every time the dog barks. The sound freaks him out and he stops barking.
Have you ever heard a dog that’s been debarked? It’s the most annoying noise! Don’t do that to your dog, it won’t solve the barking problem, he’ll just bark as much with a different but as annoying noise.
Try a spray bottle with water in it, you can buy one of those collar that sprays automatically water at your dog when they bark, or an electronic-collar. I know you said no devices but c’mon, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
everytime spray him with water. if that doesnt work spray bitter spray in his mouth. soon your dog will realize when you pull put the bitter spray he will stop barking. dogs hate the taste of it. its not mean and it wont hurt the dog it will just teach him to stop barking.

I had the same problem with my dog. I finally solved the problem with “clicker” training. You can look up the training method online. But basically you use a small hand-held device (only a couple of dollars) that makes a clicking noise. You get a bag of small dog treats (or small pieces of cheese, etc) and click then give the dog a treat… do that about 10-15 times so that the dog knows that the clicking sound means he is doing something right and he gets a treat with the sound. Once he knows that, then when he starts to bark, say “ah, ah, NO BARK”… usually that makes them stop barking for a second or two… as soon as he stops click the clicker and give him a treat. He will start barking again… but repeat the process… “ah, ah, NO BARK”, and when there is a pause ‘click’ and give him a treat. After a few times, make the dog pause longer in between barks before he gets the treat. Trust me, they figure it out quickly.
I worked with my dog about 10 minutes a day (2 or 3 times a day) and it took about a week for him to learn “NO BARK”. But it works like a charm now!
I am training our new puppy with the same technique. This is day two and she is already starting to figure out the command.
I use clicker training for all my dog training. It’s the best method I have ever found. Super effective and easy!
Good luck!
EDIT: BTW… I don’t use the command very often because dogs bark for a reason. It is their way of alerting you to something. When my dogs start to bark I figure out what it is that they are barking for (go outside, someone coming up the walkway, seeing another dog, etc) and praise them for alerting me. I only use the “no bark” command when they are “nuisance” barking and I have praised them for alerting me. That is very important! Dogs need to bark to communicate so you want to praise them for that and only use the command sparingly.
He is barking probably because he wants to go outside. Or if he is outside, he wants in. You could tell he would want to go outside because he would bark near a window or door. If he is barking at you he wants attention. If he is barking just every where like crazy he is trying to tell you something. Follow him if he is going somewhere in the house. There might be an animal in the house like a mouse. Play with him and exersise him alot so he will calm down and stop barking. Hope I helped.
The worst thing you can do is yell at him. He thinks your joining on the bark fest.
When my dog barks I walk over to the door ( or window) and tell her “good girl” then I say “all done” and she walks away.
Since you are obviously incapable of TRAINING…or it’s PATHOLOGICAL…de-barking is the only option.
People w/more braincells than fingers buy BARK-COLLARS!!!
It is best to use a device. Debarking is cruel.
Just go to http://www.antibarkingdevice.com and it will show exactly how to stop your dog from barking.
If you have attempted to train your dog verbally, then your remaining options are surgery to lower the tone of your dog’s bark {debarking} or purchasing a no bark collar & training the dog what behavior is expected of it.
Far better to train the dog & not have it aggravate you {& possibly your neighbors} with persistent barking which is nuisance behavior & if that fails consider surgery, than carry on as you are.
A multi pronged approach is necessary to alleviate this problem as barking can be one of the most difficult canine behaviors to modify but there are many steps that can be taken to minimize barking.
Dogs that are left alone outside for long periods of time can discover that excessive barking can be a great way to get their owners attention and even an angry owner is better than being isolated outside. Bring the dog inside, but do not scold him for barking.
Ensure that your dog has enough exercise and stimulation – provide interesting toys and take him for a walk every day so that he can sniff and “read the doggy news”.
Do not reinforce anxiety induced barking or whining by comforting the dog or talking to them in a soothing voice. Talk, pet or play with them only after they have been quiet for at least two seconds.
Socialize your dog to new experiences. Take him to different places and praise him for appropriate behavior. Expose him gradually to the sights and sounds that may trigger barking. Reward quiet relaxed behavior.
Natural herbal and homeopathic remedies can be used to address excessive barking in a gentle yet effective manner, using selected herbal and homeopathic ingredients known for their calming properties as well as their ability to treat hyperactive, delinquent, overactive and highly strung pets.
A combination of certain herbs and homeopathic ingredients such as Scutellaria laterifolia, Hypericum perforatum, Belladonna (30C), Cantharis (30C) and Nux vom. (30C) are known for their ability to promote calm and settled behavior. Natural remedies can be a safe alternative to prescription medications, and a natural approach will address underlying causes – and not just the symptoms.
