Did you just recently get the new dog? Are you still paying as much attention to the old dog as you used to? Barking dog can = bored dog.

In order to get your dog to stop barking, you might have to teach him to bark on command, then teach the *quiet* command.

The shock collar isn’t really that bad – it’s a small shock, and more than anything it just scares the dog.

Make sure you are giving him enough attention. He’s probably a tad jealous of your new dog. You can plan activities that involve both of them equally in order to establish a better relationship between your two dogs. (Take them on walks together, play catch with both of them, etc.)

Clearly your dog is best suited as an ‘only’ dog and feels his position as the #1 dog in the house is threatened by the arrival of the new one. Try paying more attention to him for a while and always make sure that if you are doing something with both dogs (like feeding) make sure you give the older dog his food first Same for treats. That way you will be reinforcing the “alpha dog” position. That might help.
