Posted: April 15th, 2011 | Author: admin | Filed under: Common Questions | Tags: Best, Border, collies...., excersice, Food, kind, Much | 4 Comments »i know that dobermans for example need pretty expensive food(like 50$ a bag which they go through almost every 3 weeks)
– while my other dogs such as GSD’s and rottie could deal with taste of the wild and blue buffalo (i think i just mixed the names up?)
what food would u suggest for a border collie
and how many hours a day of exercise should he be getting ? – i have about 2 acres of land for him to run flat out on and play frisbee on and fetch and of course obedience (about 2-3 10-15 minutes sesssions every day)
how much exercise should he be getting (after the age of 1 so i dont mess up his bones =) )
he will also have a GSD to romp with and play with =)
i may also sign him up for agility although no promises i have to find a club somewhere near me first
there are also a lot of fields next to me so that he can run flat out and race around
are there any tips i need for a border collie? how many hours a day of exercise, what food is best but not kick ass expensive lol
and any other tips =)

I feed my dogs on Nature’s Variety. It is definitely the best food I’ve found so far. As far as exercise, at least an hour of walking once a day.
Food for dogs is not breed specific. the only exception is with giant breeds when you have to watch the calcium/phosphorus ratio. A doberman, rottweiler, and GSD all have the same dietary requirements.
Taste of the Wild and Blue Buffalo are both good dog foods.
A border collie needs A LOT of exercise. Not just the ability to roam free. They are working dogs. They usually have high energy to go with it.
I feed my dog Orijen, it’s pretty up there in price but I don’t care I don’t put a price on my dog. The ingredients are great and breed doesn’t matter, it’s food…
And border collies need A LOT of exercise daily, mental and physical.
Purina Dog Chow usually works for hyper dogs. As for exercise, border collies need a lot of it. But you don’t want to just do things join a club for agility, because your dog is not a machine, he’ll need some free time too. So I would say do the agility thing, border collies are really good at that, but also take your dog to a dog park, where he can play and interact with other dogs, and just relax. Also it would be smart for you to get a harness or something for your dog to wear when he’s at agility, because then he’ll know the difference between play time, and practice time
