I know I posted this earlier…but more advice wont hurt
Ok. So we might be buying a 4 month old mastiff pup. (She said that she expects him to be 180-200 by the time he is 3)
This pup has lived outside his whole life. Will it be really difficult to get him used to living inside? What should I look out for? I am going to crate him until he is potty trained and I can trust him in the house.
Will potty training him be really hard?
Is there any other advice you could give to me? Anything and everything is appreciated!
and yes he is UTD on shots and everything. she says he has a great temperament.
so @ 4 months I would be able to get him neutered then right? I know some people say different things…but whats the general healthy age?
I’m going to enroll him in obedience of course and hopefully do CGC
we have an almost 2 yr old spayed female great dane with hip dysplasia (which we are getting treated) and we have a 4 year old spayed female boxer/airedale mix. both are great dogs.
and we feed candiae als. is that acceptable for him? and do gentle leader head collars work well on pure bred mastiffs? if he is about 4 months old…what size crate should I use?
thank you all!!
I dont have him yet. I just wanted to plan ahead
just a pet.

I have my first mixed-breed pup and have heard recently that it IS possible to get her registered (different type of reg. of course) and show her through AKC. I know for a fact my pup’s sire is purebred german shepherd and the dam is purebred australian cattle dog….Obviously she wouldn’t be eligable for breed-specific competitions like conformation but what i’m interested in is obedience/rally/agility. Does anyone know for SURE that this “limited registration” is possible to obtain titles? On AKC’s website it was unclear weather or not the limited reg. was only for purebred dogs that didn’t have papers or if they have something for mixed breeds as well.

Also, assuming this is possible, does anyone know how to go about getting an application? Cost? Limitations?
lol, I’m not an idiot, I know her parents being purebred doesn’t mean anything, my point was just that I know exactly what the mix is.
My understanding is, unless she’s registered somehow, she’s not eligible for shows/titles? I’m really only familiar with AKC shows.
Thanks! I wasn’t clear on the difference between ILP #s (doesn’t have papers for whatever reason?) and limited registration (although they have papers, breeders don’t want puppies bred?)…Am I understanding correctly?

My neighbor’s dog has been barking non-stop since early this morning! This is not the first time the dog has done this. I think he/ she may possibly do this while they are gone. We live in an apartment building that is very acceptable to pets(which is great!). I know that this apartment has 2 cats. We were told that the lady below us has 2 cats, a middle school aged daughter, and wanted to know more about us from the landlord before we moved in. We were also told that we were in a very quiet section. No problem. Last summer they got a dog. It barks non-stop for hours until they get home. This is not the first time. Should I write them a note?
I slipped a note under their door that said:
Your dog has been barking non-stop for hours!!! This is not the first time either. We understand that your dog may just be bored when you’re not home. Please just know that it is a nuisance to those you live by.
How does that sound?

So showing may not be the best for Loki…but agility looks fun!
I have found a place that will teach agility to beginners and the good thing is, it’s the same organisation where Loki learnt his obedience.
The course includes…
* Jumps
* Long Jump
* Tunnels
* Weave Poles
* Table/platform
* Tyre Jump
* Mini dog walk
* Ladder
My first question is about the agility. I am 13 years old and want to become a junior handle as I think it’s called. My mum is going to enrol in the training course next year.
Is this all that is needed to be learnt complete an agility course? What about when running through the course. Are you and the dog going at the same speed?
And for the people who have done agility before and have the experience, what is it like? Easy, hard? Fun? Just any experience you have had. Thanks..

Okay, so i talked to them at Crufts, have looked on the site and such and have to ask. Is it a good place to start to learn basic skills.
It’s a mix of distance and workshop, depending on what the module is.
I know training an behaviour skills are often learned through apprenticeships and on the job training, but i’m doing some other courses about animal management and care at the moment and what i want to do is behaviour and training but i obviously can’t do a real hands on apprenticeship or something like that whilst doing a full time course and working in the kennel part time, but i can do distance courses as well. So i was thinking it could be a way to learn the basics and get things started towards getting a BA as well.
But I don’t know to much about the professional view of places like the CIDBT, so, any UK dog trainers about would it be worth doing these courses to get a good idea and a bit of a start before being able to actually start shadowing trainers?
