It’s been raining a lot lately in my area, and my Cody doesn’t seem to want to pee or poop it the wet grass. He’s only a puppy, and he’s never had to do it, so it’s all new to him. I let him out in the backyard for 10 minutes, and then I let him back in. Less than 10 minutes later, I find pee and poop on the living room carpet. It’s really stressing me out. I’ve taken a potty training class at Petsmart, and that helped just a little. We have crate trained him, but strangely, he can get out of the crate even if its locked. My parents are stressing out about this too, and they said that if he’s not housebroken we can’t keep Cody, and that would break my heart. So if there any suggestions at all please list them!!! Thank you soooo much I really appreciate it.

We have a dog that we just got a few weeks ago in our home. He has no way to take himself out but we are home almost all the time (all but 1 day a week), we take him out every 1-1.5 hours or so, keep out “doggy training (scented to attract – or so they say) potty pads”, and when we are gone from home he is left in a large bathroom with a light. The problem is that we have to watch him EVERY minute or he will go “potty” in the house … and never on the pads. He likes to do his “deeds” right in the center of the walkway. When we take him out it is for a long time and we make sure he “goes” a few times before we take him in. Most of these are happening in the early am or late night, or he just sneaks off for just a sec around the corner and by the time we can get up to follow him it is too late. How we handle it: we are following the directions on the “potty pads” which says to scold animal by saying no to the mess, picking up the mess, then taking & placing animal on the pad (to associate it with going there?). Also, he has now begun chewing all my electrical cords out of the walls (ie cell phone charger, lamp plugs, anything elctrical, etc. even though they are hard to get to (blocked by furniture) he somehow gets to them (he is a tiny dog. And, yes, we have chew toys and treats for him. He gets chew toys all the time and treats are rewaards for “doing his business” outside. Any advice? What am I doing wrong? (He is about 1 yr old.)

So i got a 9 month old pitbull mix puppy from the shelter, and i have had her for 2 days. I want to train her to go on the “puppy pads”, but seriously she does not pee in front of me. I wait for hours watching her, and the minute i have to go to the bathroom, or i go to get the mail, and come back she has peed on the floor. I have not once caught her peeing in front of me. I’m not sure if she is affraid of doing it in front of me? i have never scolded her for peeing on the floor. So yea i am just looking for some advice.

I just rescued a puppy from the shelter about three weeks ago. He’s five months old and wasn’t potty trained whatsoever. We’ve been working with him for the past few weeks and he was getting really good at only going to the bathroom outside in his little area. Well… that all changed the day it snowed. The past couple of days there has been at least three inches of snow on the ground and he LOVES IT. Every time we go out (which is about every two hours) he just runs around and jumps and plays and eats the snow. I will stand out there with him for a good ten minutes telling him to go potty and he has absolutely no interest in going to the bathroom at all. A couple minutes after we get back inside he goes on the floor
It’s like he’s just too distracted and forgets he has to go to the bathroom. What should I do?!
