Housebreaking a dog at night and while I’m gone?

My 1 1/2 yr old min pin does very well at going potty outside during the day. Since about 2 weeks after I got him though, he doesn’t seem to care much about where he goes at night time. I take him out before I go to bed and it doesn’t seem to matter. He will go within a couple of hours usually. He also seems to get upset when I leave or go outside and dont take him with me and even though I may only be gone an hour I will come home to puddles and piles. I’ve tried tying him out when I leave but then he comes straight in and does his business on the floor as if he’s mad at being left behind. I’ve tried toys to keep him busy but to no avail. I’m not sure what else to do. How do I deal with a dog that gets angry at being left behind? I have a baby due in December and I’m afraid he’ll become jealous and give up pottying outside altogether. What can I do so that I don’t have to end up finding him a new home? Any ideas are welcome.
