I know they train police dogs in this as a safety (poison prevention) measure, but I can’t find anything on how they do so. My dog usually obeys a, “No! Drop it!” command, but not always, and of course I have to catch him in the act. In between, he’s eating everything from bark, sticks and toad stools to wrappers and cigarette butts.
Well, I bought my dog from SPCA. He is a hybrid, but he somehow looks like German shepherd and only 1.5 years old. Very young and naughty. My neighbour likes to have many cats and somehow we managed to make friens with some cats. But Skippy (my dog) seems extreamly loves to chase smaller animals. And we were astonished with its killer’s instict. He know that when he managed to chase a cat he must bite on their neck first. Two cats has been murdered by him now and the cats seems to be “extinct” at our area. Please help me to train him so that he would not assasinate any cats anymore. Of course, I hope that he could still remember he can catch mice after trainning. I saw him digging holes to catch something. It is good.

Start with sit, then move onto stay, come and then lie down. The no command may need reinforcement, but most dog learn this command with housebreaking. It is important to be consistent and train the dog daily for about 30 minutes a day. After training, there should be a little playtime. I have a 11 month old lab and we was planning on putting a fence up so we could play with him outside and not have worry about him running off, but we don’t have the money for a fence now because our older dog has had a lot of medical problems and the vet bills have been expensive. What would be a good way to train him to stay in the yard, and of course we will not leave him out there by himself.
Just wanted to make sure everyone understands that I don’t plan on leaving my dog outside period by himself, I just wanted some suggestions for when I take him outside to play, and so I can have more room to train him better.
From what I have read here on YA, I have determined that dogs can not be housebroken. As puppies, they jump on people, bite children, and whine all the time. They get fleas, ticks, and worms, which are not the owner’s fault, of course! They like to do damage by chewing up wires, cats, and even couches! So, instead of keeping them, people want to get rid of them since they “have no possitive qualities”!
But, then I see a question that states that dogs can be “trained”! What is this allusive training? What doesn’t anyone else know about it? Is this just something that a “secret” society knows about and won’t share with the rest of us?
