Hi – thanks for your kind comments.

Me and Macy went through the steps required to learn the “Beg” over a two week period. This involved many short 2-3 minute sessions each day.

All the best with your dog.

It all depends on your dog and your skill as a trainer.

In the long run it doesn’t matter how long it takes to teach a new trick or any behavior. The important thing is to have fun with it and enjoy the process.

    Hi, thanks for your comments.

Yes you need to give your dog lots of treats when building a trick.

Keep in mind that the treats are very small and healthy. Plus you can always weigh the treats and take the total weight off your dog’s daily meal allowance.

    All the best.

  16. 16 scooterinnc84 said at 1:42 pm on May 22nd, 2010:

Dang, how many treats do you have to give your dog… He’s going to be obese after all those treats and he’ll be passing out instead of begging. I do like that method though, but not so many treats.

I don’t think he’s giving her like a whole treat; probably the size of a piece of kibble. It’s what most trainers do.

Cool, thanks. I’m sure sit and down are quite easy. What do you recommend for stay? High five would probably be a good one that I would be interested in seeing.

  24. 24 DogTrainingTricks said at 3:11 pm on May 22nd, 2010:

Keep clicking any raise of the head but slowly raise the target stick so your dog must lift up off his haunches to reach the stick. If he doesn’t reach up, he doesn’t earn a click or treat.

Note: Ensure that your dog is in good physical health and capable of rocking back on his haunches.

    Good luck with it.
